If your mornings involve a hairbrush, a protest and someone hiding under the table, we see you. Knots are one of the most common things we see behind the salon chair, and the good news is a few small changes make a big difference.

Our salon tips for calmer brushing
- Start at the ends, not the roots. Hold the hair above the knot so the pull goes against your hand instead of their scalp. Then work your way up in small sections.
- Never brush dry knots. A few sprays of detangler first gives the brush something to glide on.
- Condition every wash. Skipping conditioner is the number one reason we see knotty hair. It smooths the hair so strands don't catch on each other.
- Brush after bath time. Comb through while the conditioner is still in, or straight after towel drying, when knots slide out easiest.
- Plait it for bed. A loose plait or low ponytail stops hair rubbing on the pillow overnight, which means fewer bird's nests in the morning.
- Give them a job. Let your little one hold the spray bottle or count the brush strokes. Kids who feel in charge fight it a lot less.
